Every year, we see close to 10,000 clients come through the doors of the Halifax Sexual Health Centre, and every year we continue to struggle to find the resources needed to fund the important services we provide. So fundraisers are a great way to keep our services going, and also to build community awareness and support for our Centre.
From 2007 to 2010, we held an annual fundraising event called the NOT SO SERIOUS SIDE OF SEX. It typically included a sexy quiz with six local ‘sexperts’, along with great music, dance demonstrations, and a silent and live auction throughout the evening. In 2008, the event was held in April at the McInnis room at Dalhousie University and was hosted by Cory Bowles of The Trailer Park Boys! In 2009 and 2010, our fundraiser was held at Bubbles Mansion and a great time was had by all.
On September 25, 2011, HSHC participated in the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life at the Halifax Commons. Staff and volunteers from HSHC participated in the walk to show our support for those in our community living with and affected by HIV/ AIDS. Part of the proceeds came back to the Centre for the Anonymous HIV Testing program.
Funds have also been raised by our Fundraising Committee and Youth Committee in 2011/12, and the Dalhousie School of Medicine named HSHC as the recipient for the proceeds from the Euphoria variety show for 2012.
